Following a process with the trace
Read a process from start to end with the data each step uses, find unreachable steps and see where data is used elsewhere.
Click "Trace" in the editor. The page "Trace: <title>" lists the steps in the order the sequence flows reach them, starting at the start event. Each numbered step shows its name, its type, the link "Show in the editor" and the chips of its linked tables and fields.
The trace shows the saved state of the process. Save your changes before you open it.
Who can use this
- Every member with a built in role: Owner, Admin, Accountant, Sales, Purchase, HR Manager, Employee, Viewer and Compliance
Steps
1. Read the order
Follow the numbered steps under "Steps in order". After a gateway, all branches are followed; steps that are equally far from the start appear one after the other.
2. See where data is used
Click a chip. The popover "Used in" lists every process step that touches this table or field, with the process, the step and the relation. Click an entry to open that process with the step selected.
3. Open the knowledge graph
For a field, the popover offers "Open in the knowledge graph". It opens the field in Company Brain with all its connections.
4. Open the records
For a table, "Go to table" opens the page in BizCortex that lists its records, for example the invoices in Sales.
5. Go back
Click "Back to the editor".
Fields and options
- Unreachable steps
Steps no sequence flow leads to from the start. The warning "These steps cannot be reached from the start" names them, and they appear at the end of the list with the badge "unreachable".
- Steps in order
The reachable steps, numbered from the start event onwards. Each step appears once, even in a loop.
- Used in
Every process and step that is linked to the chosen table or field.
Tips
- An unreachable step often means a missing sequence flow. Open it with "Show in the editor" and connect it.
Good to know
- A process without a start event starts at every step that has no incoming sequence flow.
