Processes in the company graph

How processes, steps, domains, tables and fields appear in the Company Brain knowledge graph and which connections link them.

Every process that is not archived is described in the Company Brain knowledge graph. The graph gains four node types: "Process", "Process step", "Domain" and "Table". Fields use the existing type "Data field", so a field in a process is the same node that Company Brain already shows for your company data.

The connections follow the diagram and the links. For example, the payroll step that calculates salaries reads the annual salary. When you open the annual salary field in the knowledge graph, it lists the step under "Read by" as "Lohnabrechnung › Gehälter berechnen". Click the step to open it in the Processes editor.

Who can use this

  • Every member who may open the Company Brain knowledge graph; each node only for those who may see its source

Steps

  1. 1. Find a process in the graph

Open Company Brain, Knowledge graph and use the type chips "Process", "Process step", "Domain" or "Table", or type a name into the search.

  2. 2. Follow a step

Open a process step. "Step of" leads to its process, "Next" and "Follows" to the neighbouring steps, and "Reads", "Writes", "Creates" and "Approves" to the linked tables and fields.

  3. 3. Start from a field

Open a data field. "Read by", "Written by", "Created by" and "Approved by" list the steps that use it, and "Stored in" leads to its table.

  4. 4. Jump from Processes

In the trace or on "Domains and data", click a field and choose "Open in the knowledge graph".

Fields and options

Has step / Step of

Between a process and each of its steps.

Next / Follows

Between two steps joined by a sequence flow.

Reads, Writes, Creates, Approves

From a step to a linked table or field. Seen from the table or field: "Read by", "Written by", "Created by", "Approved by".

Part of / Contains

From a table or a process to its domain.

Stored in / Holds field

From a field to the table that holds it.

Good to know

  • The graph is updated every time a process is saved, imported, restored, linked or deleted, and in full every night. Archived processes and orphaned links do not appear.
  • Each node is visible only to members who may see its source. Processes, steps and domains need the right to read processes, and a table needs the right to read its records. A connection appears only when you may see both ends, so for example only members who may read payroll runs see that a step approves the payroll run.
  • The graph shows which data a step uses, never the values themselves.
  • The graph shows names as they are stored. For the starter processes and the catalog these are the German names.
  • The knowledge graph is part of Company Brain, which needs the Brain package. The Processes app itself works without it.
