Cross check a requirement

Check a rule against your data and documents, with a status and a source for every statement.

Company Brain, Checks answers compliance questions by walking the graph. It starts at the rule you ask about, follows it to the requirements it depends on, collects the data fields each requirement needs and the documents that prove them, and reads the original pages. The AI then judges each requirement, and every reason it gives must quote a document or your company data word for word.

Each requirement gets one of four results: "Met", "Missing", "Conflict" or "Unknown". A rule can only be as good as the requirements it depends on.

Who can use this

  • Running a check: Owner, Admin and Accountant
  • Reading the latest checks: every member with a built in role

Steps

  1. 1. Ask

Type your question in "Compliance question", for example "Do we meet the retention duty of § 257 HGB?", or enter a rule in "Or a provision directly (optional)". Click "Check".

  2. 2. Read the chain

Under "Result" the "Chain" shows the rule and the requirements below it, each with its status and how it was judged.

  3. 3. Check the sources

Every reason shows its source: the document, the page ("p. 2") and the quote. Click a source to open the document at that page.

  4. 4. Fix what is missing

Use the links under a requirement: "Set …" opens the place where a missing value is entered, "Create template …" offers a template that fulfils the requirement.

  5. 5. Look at earlier results

"Latest checks" lists every requirement with its latest result.

Fields and options

Met

A reason grounded in your company data or a company document shows the requirement is fulfilled. The text of the law alone is never enough.

Missing

Required data is not set and no document shows it. This is decided by a rule, without the AI.

Conflict

Your data or documents contradict the requirement.

Unknown

Nothing could be proven, for example because no reason survived the quote check or the AI was not available.

Applicability unclear

A badge on an obligation whose condition cannot be decided: its addressee is "Other" or "Specific sector" with no condition, or your profile lacks a fact the condition reads. Hover over the badge to see which facts are missing. You see it in the chain, in "Latest checks", in the compliance library and in the knowledge graph.

Does not apply

A badge on an obligation whose condition your company and product profiles answer with no, for example a duty for corporations when your legal form is Einzelunternehmen, or a duty for companies selling in the EU when you sell only in the US.

Tips

  • In the Brain chat, ask "Are we compliant with § 257 HGB?". Brain runs the same check and answers with status and sources.

Good to know

  • The AI checks and explains with sources; it does not decide alone.
  • Reasons without evidence are dropped and counted ("AI reasons dropped for lack of evidence").
  • A check reads only what you may see. A private document of another person is never used as evidence for you.
  • The check follows at most 3 steps and 25 requirements; "The check was limited" tells you when it stopped early.
  • Checks need the compliance database. Without it the question field is disabled.
  • An obligation marked "Applicability unclear" or "Does not apply" is shown with its own status, but it does not count toward "Met" or "Missing" of the rule above it or toward the overall result. It creates no suggestions: no "Set …" or "Create template …" links and no proposals under Triggers. Fill in the missing profile facts to settle an unclear one.
